Gas Supply to be Suspended in Several Karachi Areas

KARACHI: Gas supply will remain temporarily suspended in several areas of Karachi during the night between Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, due to pipeline relocation work near the Nipa Flyover. The update was shared by Sui Southern Gas Company through a social media announcement, according to reports by ARY News.

According to the SSGC, the work is being carried out on the request of Trans Karachi as part of ongoing development activities linked to the BRT route near Nipa Chowrangi.

The project involves the relocation and lowering of heavy-pressure gas pipelines measuring 16 inches and 20 inches in diameter. Officials said the maintenance and technical work is necessary to support infrastructure development in the area while ensuring the safety of the gas supply system.

SSGC stated that the scheduled gas shutdown will begin at 10:00 PM on Saturday and continue until 5:00 AM on Sunday. However, due to the technical complexity of the operation, the work may continue until 8:00 AM if required.

During this period, gas supply will either remain suspended or experience low pressure in several major parts of Karachi. Important institutions expected to be affected include Liaquat National Hospital, Aga Khan University Hospital, and Karachi Central Prison.

The affected residential and commercial areas include all blocks of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, PIB Colony, Jamshed Road, Lines Area, PECHS, and Saddar.

Meanwhile, residents continue to face the routine gas load-shedding schedule already implemented across Karachi. According to existing timings, gas supply interruptions are taking place daily from 10 AM to 12 PM, 3 PM to 6 PM, and again from 10 PM until 6 AM the following morning.
