The federal government has announced a reduction in petrol and diesel prices by Rs. 5 per litre for the next seven days,i. After the latest adjustment, the new price of petrol has been set at Rs. 409.78 per litre, while high-speed diesel will now cost Rs. 409.58 per litre across the country.
Officials said the Petroleum Division is expected to issue an official notification shortly to formally confirm the revised fuel prices.
The updated rates will come into effect immediately from Saturday, May 16, 2026, providing temporary relief to consumers dealing with rising transportation and fuel expenses.
The latest reduction follows a significant increase in petroleum prices announced earlier this month. On May 9, the government raised diesel prices by Rs. 15 per litre, while petrol prices were increased by Rs. 14.92 per litre due to changes in international oil market trends and import costs.
The recent cut is being viewed as a short-term relief measure for the public after the earlier hike led to concerns over inflation and increasing daily expenses. Fuel price changes directly impact transportation costs, goods delivery charges, and overall market prices across Pakistan.
Consumers and businesses are now waiting for the official notification from the Petroleum Division for final confirmation of the revised petrol and diesel rates.
