Former India captain Virat Kohli has opened up about his international future and his hopes of playing in the 2027 ODI World Cup, stating that he still wants to represent India as long as he feels respected and valued within the team environment.
Speaking during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru podcast on Friday, Virat Kohli said that his desire to continue playing cricket remains strong, and featuring in another World Cup for India is still an important goal for him.
Virat Kohli shared that many people often ask whether he plans to play the 2027 World Cup. In response, he said that if he is still actively playing cricket, then naturally he would want to continue competing at the highest level for his country.
However, Virat Kohli made it clear that his mindset is now simple and honest. He explained that he will continue playing only in an atmosphere where he can contribute positively and where his efforts are appreciated. According to him, constantly being forced to prove his worth is not something he can continue dealing with.
The former Indian captain added that he remains fully committed to his preparation, fitness, and performances, always trying to give his best for the team whenever he steps onto the field.
Virat Kohli further said that he now plays cricket purely because of his love for the game rather than trying to silence critics or prove anything to others. He mentioned that participating in the Vijay Hazare Trophy reminded him of his childhood days, when cricket was all about freedom and enjoyment.
He also stated that players should not be judged only on results, as consistent performances cannot be guaranteed every single time. Despite that, Virat Kohli said he still has complete confidence in his fitness, dedication, and work ethic.
The 37-year-old batter is currently enjoying outstanding ODI form, scoring three centuries and three half-centuries in his last seven innings against New Zealand, South Africa, and Australia. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he also impressed with scores of 131 and 77.
Virat Kohli has also carried his strong form into IPL 2026, where he has scored 484 runs in 12 innings, including one century and three fifties at an impressive strike rate of 165.75.
