Electric Scooters Demand Rises in Pakistan Amid Fuel Price Hike

Rising fuel prices in Pakistan have led to a strong increase in demand for electric scooters. More people are shifting toward electric transport to reduce daily commuting costs. This surge has also created shortages in the local market.

Dealers report that electric scooters are now difficult to find in many cities. Delivery times have increased to around 30 days. Buyers are also paying extra “own money” charges. These additional payments range from Rs10,000 to Rs15,000.

The shortage is mainly linked to limited availability of completely knocked down (CKD) kits. Popular models such as T5-L, Velax, and M3-H are facing supply pressure. As a result, electric scooters are selling faster than manufacturers can supply them.

Industry data shows strong sales growth. Around 40,000 electric two-wheelers were sold in April alone. Scooters made up nearly 90 percent of total sales. This shows that electric scooters are dominating the electric vehicle segment in Pakistan.

The rise in demand is closely linked to fuel price increases. Petrol prices recently rose by Rs6.51 per liter to Rs399.86. High-speed diesel also increased by Rs19.39 per liter to Rs399.58. These price hikes have pushed consumers toward cheaper alternatives.

Manufacturers are trying to respond to the growing demand. Assemblers have increased orders for CKD kits from China. Supply is expected to improve by late May or early June. This may help stabilize the availability of electric scooters in the market.

According to Evee Director Sales and Marketing Hamza Asad, the sector is expanding rapidly. He said production is being scaled up to meet rising demand. He also highlighted strong long-term growth potential for electric mobility.

Experts believe the market could grow further in the coming years. If supportive policies continue, sales of electric scooters may reach 500,000 units by the end of 2026. This would mark a major shift in transportation trends.

Consumer preferences are also changing. Buyers now want better features in electric scooters, including improved suspension, larger wheels, and longer battery range. These upgrades are becoming important for urban users.

Despite current shortages, the overall outlook remains positive. The electric mobility sector is expected to expand as fuel costs stay high. Electric scooters are increasingly becoming a practical alternative for daily travel in Pakistan.
