Maryam Nawaz Sharif Announces Plan to Export 1 Million Livestock from Punjab

The Punjab government is set to export 1 million animals under a new livestock development plan. The initiative has been launched under the leadership of Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Officials say the project aims to boost exports and strengthen the rural economy.

A high-level meeting was held under Maryam Nawaz Sharif, where key decisions were approved. Provincial Minister for Livestock Ashiq Hussain Kirmani briefed the participants. He shared updates on ongoing reforms in the sector.

According to officials, agreements have been signed with seven organizations. These include partnerships with international companies. One Chinese company, Global Meat, will work with local authorities to improve meat exports. The project includes setting up a boiler unit for large-scale processing.

Under the plan, around 300,000 animals will be imported for processing. In addition, 300,000 cattle and buffaloes will be prepared for export. Another 300,000 sheep and goats will also be fattened. Around 100,000 more animals will be raised specifically for export markets.

The initiative also focuses on modernizing livestock farming. For the first time, mechanization will be introduced in the sector. The government will provide up to 60% subsidy on modern equipment. This includes milk chillers, feed mixers, and weighing machines.

Officials also announced plans to improve veterinary services. Modern veterinary hospitals will be built in every tehsil. Mobile veterinary units will provide treatment in rural areas. This step aims to improve animal health and productivity.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif has also increased support for rural women. The quota for free livestock distribution has been doubled. Thousands of animals have already been given to widowed and divorced women. This initiative is expected to improve livelihoods in rural communities.

Authorities said that 2 million animals will be tagged to meet export goals. Subsidized breeding programs will also be introduced. Around 2 million semen doses will be provided to improve livestock quality.

Officials highlighted that Punjab has controlled major livestock diseases. No cases of certain infections have been reported since 2022. Locally produced vaccines are also being used to reduce costs.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that the livestock sector has strong economic potential. She said that past neglect was unfortunate, but current efforts aim to change that. The government believes this initiative can create jobs and increase exports.
