The federal government has approved an important step for a new Underpass project in Karachi. The decision clears a major administrative hurdle that had delayed progress for months.
Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi has directed the issuance of a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the Underpass at Malir Halt. This approval now allows construction work to move forward.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting attended by senior officials from Sindh. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon also participated in the meeting. Key administrative officers were present as well.
Officials said the Underpass project had been delayed due to pending approval from Pakistan Railways. The absence of the NOC had stopped construction work at the site. With the latest directive, this issue has now been resolved.
The Malir Halt Underpass is designed to ease traffic congestion in Karachi. It is expected to improve road flow and reduce travel delays in a busy area of the city. Authorities consider it an important infrastructure project.
During the meeting, broader transport issues were also discussed. Participants agreed on restoring the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR). They also discussed restarting suburban train services in the city.
Officials further decided to launch new train routes. These include services between Karachi and Rohri, and Karachi and Jacobabad. The aim is to improve public transport connectivity across Sindh.
The Sindh Chief Minister stressed the need for better urban transport. He said Karachi requires a modern and affordable transport system. The Underpass project is part of wider efforts to improve city infrastructure.
Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi said joint coordination will be used to upgrade railway services. He emphasized improving efficiency and reliability in the system.
According to officials, the delay in the Underpass project was mainly due to administrative procedures. With the NOC now approved, construction is expected to progress smoothly.
