Pakistan has achieved a major milestone as Russia has approved the import of Pakistani fish and seafood. This development is expected to boost the country’s fisheries sector and strengthen its global trade position.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry described the move as historic. He said this is the first time Pakistan will Export seafood to the Russian market. The approval opens new opportunities for local businesses and exporters.

According to officials, 16 Pakistani companies have received permission to Export fish to Russia. This step is likely to improve Pakistan’s presence in international markets. Authorities believe the Russian market will offer strong demand for quality seafood products.

The minister also highlighted that access to Russia could help Pakistan enter other markets. These include countries within the Eurasian Economic Union. This wider access is expected to increase the scope of seafood Export in the coming years.

The Marine Fisheries Department is playing a key role in this process. It is ensuring that all seafood meets international safety and quality standards. This is important to maintain trust with global buyers.

Currently, Pakistan’s seafood exports are valued at over $500 million annually. Officials expect this figure to rise significantly. With access to Russia, total exports could reach up to $800 million in the near future.

Exports to Russia alone are projected to generate around $300 million initially. This shows the strong potential of the new market. The government is optimistic about long-term growth in this sector.

Seafood shipments will be carried through multiple routes. These include sea, air, and land transportation. Land routes are especially important for reaching Central Asian countries at lower costs.

There is already strong demand for Pakistani fish in countries like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. Pakistan’s ports are supporting this trade by improving connectivity and logistics.
