Punjab government has launched Pakistan’s first official Mortuary Transport Service to support grieving families. The service will provide free transportation of deceased individuals from hospitals to their homes. The Mortuary Transport Service was inaugurated by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. She announced that the facility will remain completely free of cost for all citizens. The government has directed that no charges should be taken under any circumstances.
In the initial phase, the Mortuary Transport Service will be available in major cities. These include Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi. Authorities plan to expand the service to all tehsils across Punjab by June. Dedicated ambulances will be deployed in each area to ensure timely response.
During the launch ceremony, Maryam Nawaz inspected the vehicles and handed over keys to rescue staff. She emphasized that families should not face financial stress when transporting their loved ones. The chief minister said such services are a basic responsibility of the state.
Citizens can access the Mortuary Transport Service by calling 1122. Rescue teams will provide transportation from hospitals to homes without delay. Officials confirmed that trained staff will be available 24 hours a day at designated hospital counters.
The government has also introduced a monitoring system for the service. A smart rescue and dispatch system will track operations and ensure transparency. This will help improve response time and service quality.
In addition to transportation, authorities have been instructed to offer emotional support. Rescue staff will provide basic counselling to families dealing with loss. This step is aimed at addressing both practical and emotional needs.
