Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has warmly welcomed Sikh pilgrims arriving in Pakistan to celebrate the sacred Vaisakhi festival. She also extended heartfelt greetings to the Sikh community on this joyous occasion, highlighting Punjab’s tradition of hospitality and interfaith harmony.
In her official message, Maryam Nawaz said that Vaisakhi reflects the vibrant colors of happiness and represents the rich cultural spirit of Punjab. She noted that hosting Sikh pilgrims on their sacred land is a matter of pride for the people of the province. Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting religious tourism and safeguarding minority rights.
Meanwhile, more than 2,200 Indian Sikh pilgrims arrived at Gurdwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib from Lahore. The pilgrims were transported in special buses under strict security arrangements. The holy site is the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, and holds immense spiritual importance for Sikhs worldwide.
In a related development, Punjab Minister for Minorities Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora announced plans to restore more than fifty gurdwaras across the province. The initiative aims to preserve Sikh heritage and enhance religious tourism in Pakistan.
He made the announcement during a ceremony after laying the foundation stone for the restoration and beautification of Gurdwara Sri Kyara Sahib. The event took place on the second day of the nine-day Vaisakhi festival. He also revealed that a modern 40-room residential complex will be constructed to provide comfortable accommodation for visiting pilgrims.
Authorities have ensured comprehensive arrangements for the festival. These include food, lodging, security, and healthcare services for thousands of local and international devotees. The Punjab government has taken special measures to ensure a smooth and safe experience for all participants.
Visiting pilgrims expressed satisfaction with the arrangements and thanked the provincial administration. They praised Pakistan for facilitating their religious journey and described the country as a symbol of peace and interfaith harmony.
