WhatsApp May Bring Status Updates to Main Chats Tab

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that could change how users see Status updates. The latest beta versions suggest that WhatsApp plans to bring Status directly into the main Chats tab.

According to recent reports, the newest WhatsApp build on TestFlight includes signs of this upcoming update. Earlier, similar hints were also found in the Android beta version. These updates show that WhatsApp is testing a way to make Status more visible within the app.

Currently, WhatsApp Status is placed in a separate tab. However, the company now wants to make it more central. If the feature is released, users will see a top carousel inside the Chats tab. This carousel will display Status updates from their contacts in one place.

The design is similar to how Stories appear on platforms like Instagram. The first option in the carousel will allow users to post their own Status quickly. After that, updates from contacts will appear in order.

One important detail is that the Status tray will not be visible by default. Users will need to pull down from the top of the chat list to access it. This feature works in a similar way to Telegram, where hidden elements appear with a swipe gesture.

WhatsApp is also focusing on personalization. The Status updates will be ranked based on user interaction. This means updates from frequently contacted people will appear first. Less important or muted contacts will appear later in the list.

Like before, WhatsApp Status updates will disappear after 24 hours. Users can also continue to use creative tools such as stickers and music. These features are already popular among users who share daily updates.

At the moment, the feature is still under development. There is no official release date yet. However, testing on both iOS and Android suggests that WhatsApp may launch it soon.
