Schools Receive New Update Regarding Friday Schedule

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hyat has clarified the policy regarding the Friday holiday, stating that instead of a complete holiday, schools will observe a “work from home” system on Fridays, according to ARY News. This means educational institutions will remain active through online learning rather than closing entirely.

The minister confirmed that all public and private schools, colleges, and universities are allowed to conduct online classes on Fridays. However, the regular weekend schedule will not change, and Saturday and Sunday will continue to be official holidays.

Rana Sikandar Hyat thanked the public for their cooperation, emphasizing that digital learning methods are being introduced to ensure students’ time is not wasted and academic activities continue smoothly.

The Punjab education department has also introduced a revised timing structure. Single-shift schools will operate from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm, while double-shift schools will run from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm. Afternoon shift schools will function from 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

In contrast, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad have adopted a different approach by introducing a four-day working week with a Friday holiday, along with Saturday and Sunday off. This step has been taken to reduce fuel consumption amid global shortages linked to the Iran war, while still maintaining educational continuity.
