Islamabad Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory detailing road closures and alternative routes on Ataturk Avenue due to ongoing construction work in Islamabad.
According to an official, Ataturk Avenue will be closed to traffic between Express Chowk and Ayub Chowk (Aga Khan Road), with the diversion plan coming into effect from March 31, 2026, and remaining until the completion of the construction project. The closure is part of a broader initiative to improve road infrastructure in the federal capital.
Commuters traveling from Jinnah Avenue toward the Marriott Hotel will be redirected via China Chowk, Press Club Road, Super Market, and Aga Khan Road. Those coming from Khayaban-e-Suhrawardy and Embassy Road toward the Marriott Hotel will follow a different diversion, taking Shaheed-e-Millat Road, the China Chowk underpass, Press Club Road, and Aga Khan Road. Motorists moving from Srinagar Highway toward the Secretariat are advised to use Serena Chowk, Globe Chowk, and Secretariat Chowk as alternate routes.
Residents and travelers from Seventh Avenue can reach the Secretariat via Margalla Road and Shahrah-e-Dastoor. Similarly, residents of Sector F-6 are advised to use Seventh Avenue and Margalla Road during the closure to avoid congestion.
The Islamabad Traffic Police has urged citizens to plan their journeys in advance and cooperate with traffic officials to maintain smooth traffic flow throughout the construction period. Authorities emphasized that adherence to the diversion routes is crucial to minimize delays and ensure safety on the roads.
The advisory is part of the ongoing efforts by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to expand Ataturk Avenue and enhance road connectivity in Islamabad, which is expected to ease traffic congestion once completed. Commuters are encouraged to stay updated on further announcements from the ITP to navigate efficiently during the construction phase.
