Muslims across Pakistan observed Youm-e-Ali, the martyrdom anniversary of Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA) on Wednesday with deep respect and devotion, as large mourning processions were held in several cities under strict security measures.

Authorities implemented comprehensive traffic management and safety plans to protect participants and ensure the smooth flow of processions during the Youm-e-Ali observances. Thousands of mourners joined the gatherings nationwide, expressing grief and reverence. Volunteers also arranged numerous sabeels along the routes, offering cold and sweet drinks to participants. With heavy police presence and coordinated security efforts, the processions concluded peacefully during the holy month of Ramadan, and no major untoward incidents were reported.

In Lahore, the main mourning procession began from Mubarak Haveli and moved along its traditional route before concluding at Imambargah Karbala Gamay Shah. A large number of mourners participated in the solemn gathering while security forces remained vigilant along the entire route to maintain order.

Meanwhile, in Islamabad, the Youm-e-Shahadat of Hazrat Ali (RA) was observed with great devotion. The central procession started from Imambargah Zainabiya in Sector G-6/4. The procession followed its traditional path and ended at the Central Imambargah in Sector G-6/2, where participants broke their fast and offered evening prayers.

Authorities put in place strict security measures around the Markazi Imambargah and along the entire route. Shipping containers were positioned to block nearby roads, and participants entering restricted areas were subjected to body searches at four checkpoints operated by scouts and police personnel. Around 3,500 security officials were deployed to maintain law and order.

The Islamabad Capital Territory administration also installed walk-through gates at several entry points to screen mourners. Police officers, scouts, and volunteers from peace committees carried out detailed checks before allowing people to join the procession. In addition, security personnel monitored the routes from rooftops of nearby buildings to ensure full surveillance.

In Karachi, several major roads were closed as the main Youm-e-Ali procession started from Nishtar Park at 1pm. The procession passed through its designated route and concluded at Hussainia Iraniyan Imambargah in Kharadar.

According to Karachi Traffic Police, key roads including MA Jinnah Road from Guru Mandir to Tower and Saddar Road from Empress Market to Regal Chowk remained closed due to security arrangements. Authorities also announced alternative routes for commuters to reduce traffic congestion.

Vehicles coming from Nazimabad were directed to turn right at Lasbela Chowk and proceed towards Nishtar Road through Garden. Those traveling from Liaquatabad were advised to move through Teen Hatti towards Lasbela Chowk or turn left toward Central Jail (Martin Road).

Motorists heading from Hasan Square to PP Chowrangi were instructed to use Kashmir Road via New Town, Sharea Quaideen through Society Light Signal, or the Jail Flyover toward Teen Hatti and Nishtar Road.
