Amid escalating tensions along Pakistan’s western border, Punjab Police has been placed on high alert across the province, especially during the second Friday of Ramadan, with strict security measures implemented to maintain peace and stability.
Inspector General (IG) Punjab Rao Abdul Kareem directed all regional and district police officers to exercise maximum vigilance in light of the current security environment. A police spokesperson said comprehensive security arrangements have been deployed in major cities and sensitive districts to prevent any possible threats.
The IG instructed officers to closely monitor terrorists, suspects, and suspicious activities, stressing that enhanced surveillance is crucial during the holy month. He affirmed that Punjab Police is standing firmly alongside the armed forces and other security agencies to protect the nation and its people.
Security has been strengthened at mosques and other worship places for Friday prayers. Additional forces have been deployed at police checkpoints, sensitive installations, key government buildings, and foreign missions, including Chinese and other international facilities.
Special units such as the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit (PRU), and Elite Force teams have intensified patrolling around important locations. Province-wide search, sweep, and combing operations are ongoing to detect and neutralize extremist elements, including groups identified by authorities as Fitna-ul-Kharij and Fitna-ul-Hindustan.
The IG also directed district administrations, Civil Defence, and Rescue 1122 to coordinate closely with law enforcement agencies for a rapid response to any emergency.
Reassuring citizens, officials stated that Punjab Police is fully prepared to handle any situation, maintain law and order, and provide immediate support if required. People were urged to stay calm and avoid spreading rumors or relying on unverified social media reports.
Authorities emphasized that security across Punjab remains strong, with all necessary precautions in place to safeguard the province amid the ongoing situation.
