Sindh Government to Launch Interactive Science Centers for Students

The Sindh Government has announced plans to establish six modern science education centers at the divisional level. Alongside, it will introduce a formal annual calendar for observation-based study visits for public school students.

Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah said the initiative aims to enhance science education by moving beyond textbook-based learning. Students will now have opportunities to explore science through hands-on and interactive experiences.

The Sindh Government has already taken steps to promote practical learning through STEAM competitions. The upcoming science centers and structured study visits mark the next phase of the plan.

As part of the initiative, the minister visited Magnifi Science Center in Karachi, Pakistan’s first interactive science museum. The center, established by The Dawood Foundation, allows students to learn scientific concepts in an engaging and practical way. Minister Shah inspected the facility and discussed ways to expand collaboration between the government and the foundation.

He emphasized that observation-based visits are essential to connect students with science. Textbook learning alone is no longer enough. Students need opportunities to observe, explore, and interact with scientific ideas to develop critical thinking, creativity, and scientific curiosity.

The Sindh Government and The Dawood Foundation are expected to finalize a Memorandum of Understanding by the end of February. Under this agreement, a formal mechanism will be introduced for free study visits, and an annual calendar will be issued for public school students.

The calendar will also include visits to heritage sites, cultural centers, and other national landmarks across Sindh.

The Sindh cabinet has approved funding for the initiative. Rs. 30 million will be provided in the current fiscal year, with up to Rs. 60 million allocated for the next year. A formal payment mechanism will ensure smooth student participation.

Minister Shah said the initiative will provide students with practical learning opportunities. It will help nurture scientific curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills among public school students across the province.
