The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) health department has announced that meningitis vaccination is now mandatory for international travellers. A notification has been issued to all district health officers to enforce the new directive.
Under the International Health Regulations 2005, travellers to certain countries must receive the meningitis vaccine before departure. Officials have stated that permission for international travel will not be granted without proof of vaccination.
Health authorities have directed that vaccination certificates be issued promptly to all travellers. These certificates must include the vaccine manufacturer’s name, batch number, and expiry date. This ensures proper documentation for border and airline authorities.
Travellers are responsible for arranging the vaccine themselves. The health department clarified that authorities will verify certificates but will not provide vaccines directly.
The move aims to protect public health by preventing the spread of meningitis. Meningitis is a serious bacterial infection that can spread quickly, especially in crowded settings or during international travel. Vaccination is considered the most effective preventive measure.
Officials have advised travellers to plan ahead and get vaccinated in time to avoid delays at airports or border checks. Certificates must be carefully preserved, as they may be requested multiple times during travel.
Health officers in all districts have been instructed to strictly follow these guidelines. The KP health department will oversee compliance and offer assistance to ensure smooth processing for travellers.
