The Punjab government has announced the Ramzan Nigahban Package to provide essential food items at subsidized prices during the holy month. Special markets and model convenience markets across the province will implement the package.
A meeting regarding the package was held at the Department of Food Safety and Consumer Protection. The meeting was chaired by Special Assistant Salma Butt, who oversees food safety and consumer protection. She highlighted that the package aims to support families and make essential items more affordable during Ramzan.
Under the Ramzan Nigahban Package, a 10-kilogram bag of flour will be available for Rs850 in model, convenience, and Ramzan markets. To ensure wider access, each flour mill in Punjab will set up three sale points per district for subsidized flour.
Chicken and eggs will also be sold at reduced prices in these special markets. Authorities hope that these measures will help lower household food expenses and ensure that essential items remain accessible to the public.
As part of the initiative, 1,216 ‘Maryam Ka Dastarkhwan’ centers will be established across 152 tehsils of Punjab. These centers will provide meals to 250 people daily throughout the month, supporting low-income families and the needy.
Salma Butt announced that all model and convenience Ramzan markets under the package will become operational from February 15. The markets will run daily from 9am to 5pm, giving citizens convenient access to affordable food items.
Officials said the Ramzan Nigahban Package is part of a broader effort to ensure food security and assist households during the holy month. Citizens are encouraged to visit these markets and benefit from the subsidized prices and meal programs.
