Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was briefly taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a minor eye procedure, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed on Thursday.
Speaking to Geo News, Tarar said eye specialists had examined Imran Khan at Adiala Jail and advised further assessment at PIMS. Acting on this medical advice, the former prime minister was shifted to the hospital on Saturday night.
At PIMS, Khan’s eyes were examined again, and with his written consent, doctors performed a minor procedure lasting around 20 minutes. Afterward, he returned to Adiala Jail with proper medical instructions.
The minister stressed that Imran Khan remained stable throughout the procedure. “His vital signs are normal, and he is absolutely healthy,” Tarar said. He added that all prisoners receive necessary medical care and specialist treatment according to jail rules.
Addressing circulating rumors about Khan’s health, the minister rejected claims that his condition was serious. “There is no truth to any suggestion that his health is critical,” he added. The hospital visit was purely precautionary for a minor eye issue.
The clarification came after PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Khan expressed concern over reports of the former premier’s hospital visit. He urged that the party and family be allowed to meet Khan as soon as possible.
Local media earlier reported that Khan was admitted to PIMS under tight security. Hospital sources confirmed that he underwent an eye-related procedure and was discharged back to jail the following day.

The PTI had previously cited media reports suggesting Khan suffered from Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) in his right eye, which could risk permanent vision damage if untreated. However, Khan’s sister, Noreen Khan, denied these claims, stating that he had no eye problem and was in good health.
Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023. He faces multiple cases, including corruption and terrorism charges, following his removal from power via a no-trust motion in April 2022.
The hospital visit confirms that Khan is receiving proper medical attention while in custody. Authorities maintain that his health is being closely monitored and that all necessary care is provided.
