The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is preparing for a historic milestone with its first-ever player auction, according to insiders following a late-night meeting of the PSL Working Group.
Key decisions regarding player retention for PSL 11 have reportedly been finalized, with Working Group 4 agreeing on a retention framework. Under the plan, each franchise can retain four players, one from each category, with the flexibility to move a player to a lower category and designate them as a brand ambassador.
Most franchises, including Lahore Qalandars, Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, and Hyderabad, have reportedly supported the auction. However, Peshawar Zalmi and Sialkot reportedly preferred a draw-based approach instead.
Final approval for these decisions is expected from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. If necessary, a meeting of the PSL Governing Council may be held to formally ratify the plans.
Once the retained players are confirmed, new franchises will be able to select from the remaining player pool using the same process, ensuring a balanced and fair distribution of talent across all teams.
