ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan cricket captain and renowned all-rounder Shahid Afridi has confirmed that he has permanently shifted from Karachi to Islamabad, saying the decision was made for personal reasons. The former cricketer shared his views while speaking about national development and his future plans.
Afridi highlighted that sustainable progress in the country depends on continuity in policies, respect for democratic values, and the completion of constitutional terms by state institutions. He stressed that when institutions are allowed to function without disruption, it creates stability and paves the way for long-term national growth.
Expressing optimism about Pakistan’s future, Afridi said that consistent policies and institutional stability could bring real improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens. He added that he hopes to see Pakistan emerge as a fast-developing nation where systems work effectively for the benefit of the public.
The former captain also spoke about the recognition and respect he gained worldwide through Pakistan and its cricketing legacy. He described this as a great honor and said he feels a strong sense of responsibility to give back to the country and the sport that shaped his career. Afridi noted that he remains committed to contributing to cricket and national causes in meaningful ways.
Addressing speculation about his political ambitions, Afridi made it clear that he has no intention of joining politics at this stage. He revealed that although he has been offered important government positions in the past, he chose not to accept them. According to him, official titles and political roles do not attract him.
Afridi reiterated that his focus remains on positive contributions outside formal political structures. He emphasized that service to the country does not require holding an office and can be achieved through sincere efforts in sports, social welfare, and public awareness.
