Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to sign a formal Pre-Immigration Clearance agreement aimed at simplifying travel procedures for Pakistani passengers heading to the UAE. The Interior Ministry confirmed the development on Monday, describing it as a major step toward improving passenger convenience and bilateral cooperation.
The decision was finalized during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and a UAE delegation led by Ahmed Abdullah Bin Lahej Al Falasi. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries and introducing modern systems to streamline immigration and travel-related processes.
Under the proposed arrangement, Pakistani passengers traveling to the UAE will complete immigration and related clearance procedures before departing from Pakistan. Upon arrival in the UAE, travelers will be able to exit airports without going through standard immigration counters, similar to domestic passengers.
Officials said the system will initially be launched on a pilot basis, with Karachi selected as the first location for implementation. Relevant Pakistani and Emirati authorities have been instructed to work closely to finalize the administrative, legal, and technical framework required for the pilot phase.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the pre-immigration clearance system would significantly reduce waiting times at airports, ease congestion, and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers. He added that the initiative reflects Pakistan’s commitment to adopting efficient and traveler-friendly systems.
The UAE delegation welcomed the proposal and assured full cooperation in its implementation. While no specific signing date was announced, officials said both sides aim to complete formalities soon and expand the system to other cities after successful execution of the pilot project.
