Last Date Set for Parrot Registration Announced

The Wildlife Department has officially announced January 5, 2026, as the final deadline for the mandatory declaration and registration of parrots, making it clear that no further extensions will be allowed beyond this date.

According to a spokesperson for the department, authorities have already granted multiple extensions in the past to facilitate bird owners, but this time the deadline will be strictly enforced. The registration requirement applies to several parrot species, including Alexandrine parrots, rose-ringed parrots, grey-headed parrots, and pink-headed parrots. Owners of these birds are legally bound to complete the declaration process before the cutoff date.

The spokesperson revealed that more than 100,000 parrots have already been registered nationwide, reflecting a strong response from the public. However, officials believe that a significant number of parrots remain undocumented, prompting the department to issue a final reminder to owners to comply with the law.

Earlier, the deadline had been extended twice to accommodate citizens who were unable to complete registration on time. Despite these concessions, authorities have now decided to close the registration window permanently after January 5, emphasizing that the prolonged grace period should not be taken lightly.

The Wildlife Department has issued a clear warning that strict legal action will follow once the deadline passes. Owners found keeping unregistered parrots after January 5 will face heavy fines and possible legal proceedings. Officials stressed that no exceptions or leniency will be shown under any circumstances once enforcement begins.

The move is part of broader efforts to regulate wildlife ownership, protect native bird species, and curb illegal trade. The department has urged all parrot owners to complete the declaration process immediately to avoid penalties and ensure compliance with wildlife protection laws.
