OpenAI’s ChatGPT experienced a brief outage on Friday, which affected over 19,000 users for approximately 30 minutes. The company quickly resolved the issue, restoring service by 5 p.m. PT. Although users began regaining access by 4:34 p.m., some continued to experience problems until the full resolution.
CEO Sam Altman acknowledged the disruption and expressed regret on social media, reassuring users that the service was restored. This minor glitch contrasts with OpenAI’s broader success, as the platform continues to scale rapidly with a user base of 250 million active users per week. OpenAI’s valuation has soared from $14 billion to $157 billion, with revenues hitting $3.6 billion, surpassing initial projections.

Since its November 2022 launch, ChatGPT has evolved significantly.
