16 Pakistani Beggars Posing As Umrah Pilgrims Nabbed In Multan
“In Lahore, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) apprehended sixteen members of a single family who were attempting to travel to Saudi Arabia under the guise of Umrah pilgrimage for the purpose of begging. The suspects had secured Umrah visas and were en route from Multan when they were prevented from boarding the plane. During questioning, they confessed to planning to beg in the kingdom.
According to their statements, three agents had arranged their lodging in Saudi Arabia, with the stipulation that the agents would receive a 50 percent share of the total funds collected from the beggars.
The group comprises eleven women, five men, and one child. A case has been registered against all the suspects to initiate an inquiry into the matter.
This incident occurred shortly after the Secretary of Overseas Pakistanis informed a Senate standing committee that 90% of beggars arrested abroad are Pakistani nationals.”
