Chinese tennis player Zheng Qinwen has made history by becoming the first Chinese player to reach an Olympic singles final. On Thursday, Zheng defeated world number one Iga Swiatek 6-2, 7-5. Zheng will face either Croatia’s Donna Vekic or Slovakia’s Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the gold medal match.

Zheng, who has played multiple long matches leading up to the semi-final, expressed immense joy at her achievement. “Happy isn’t enough to describe how I feel,” she said. Zheng, who had previously lost all six encounters against Swiatek, overcame the four-time French Open champion despite Swiatek’s 25-match win streak in Paris.
