An accountability court in Islamabad has called upon PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari to appear in the Thatta Water Supply case on December 18. Judge Muhammad Bashir presided over the case on Wednesday, instructing the former president and 14 others to attend the court for the upcoming hearing.

The accused individuals, including former secretary Aijaz Ahmad Khan, Ali Akbar Abro, Aijaz Memon, Abdul Ghani Majeed, Manahil Majeeb, and Nadeem Bhutto, were all summoned.

Asif Ali Zardari was previously charged in the water supply reference in October 2020, prior to the NAO amendments, as part of the fake bank accounts case. The water supply reference is related to the alleged improper award of a contract by the special initiative department for the Thatta water supply scheme to a private contractor.

In January, an accountability court returned a corruption reference against former president Zardari following the modifications to the National Accountability Bureau.
