Babar Azam Reflects on Peshawar Zalmi’s Defeat to Quetta Gladiators: “Powerplay Cost Us the Match”
Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam has acknowledged that his team’s defeat to Quetta Gladiators at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi was largely due to conceding too many runs during the powerplay overs.
Speaking after the loss, Babar noted a shift in pitch behavior between the two innings. “The pitch slowed down in the second innings, which made batting more difficult,” he explained.

He also highlighted the lack of crucial partnerships, adding, “Apart from the stand between Saim Ayub and Hussain Talat, we couldn’t build any momentum.”
Despite the loss, Babar had words of appreciation for Saim Ayub, who made a strong return to competitive cricket with a well-earned half-century. “Saim Ayub has batted brilliantly,” said the Zalmi skipper. “It’s heartening to see him back in form.”
Zalmi will now be looking to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures, with Babar hoping for better execution and team cohesion in both batting and bowling departments.
