This ensuing controversy prompted her exit from the country and the release of a statement to address the situation.

On October 9, 2023, she made the decision to leave, initially ascribed to “personal reasons” by the international cricket governing body. Nevertheless, in a statement shared on X, Zainab Abbas expressed her gratitude for the opportunities she had to travel and represent the sport she is passionate about.

Zainab Abbas further clarified that her departure was not a result of being asked to leave or deportation from India. She disclosed that she experienced feelings of being “intimidated and scared” due to the online reaction to the controversy, which ultimately led to her decision to leave.
