Alphabet-owned YouTube announced on Wednesday that it has resolved a widespread technical issue that disrupted video streaming services for thousands of users across the globe.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), YouTube confirmed that users should now be able to stream videos normally on YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube TV, though the company did not reveal the root cause of the outage.
The disruption, which began late Tuesday, led to widespread streaming errors and playback failures for users in multiple regions. According to Downdetector, a platform that monitors service outages, reports of issues peaked at around 7:55 p.m. ET, with over 366,000 users in the United States affected at one point. Users in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia also experienced similar problems accessing YouTube’s services.
Downdetector’s data is based on user-submitted reports from various sources, meaning the actual number of impacted users may have been higher. The outage sparked significant activity on social media platforms, with users expressing frustration and seeking updates from the company.
YouTube later reassured users that normal streaming functionality had been restored globally, thanking them for their patience while the technical problem was being resolved.
