YouTube has deleted hundreds of AI-generated Bollywood videos after Bollywood stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan filed a lawsuit in New Delhi. The couple approached the court, requesting the removal of such content and a ban on AI videos that misuse their names and likeness.
The lawsuit also raised questions about YouTube’s AI training policies. Last month, a judge ordered the removal of a few video links identified by the actors. However, a Reuters report revealed that hundreds of similar videos were still available on the platform. Some clips showed manipulated scenes of celebrities in romantic or misleading situations.
Following the report, one major channel called “AI Bollywood Ishq” was deleted. The channel previously hosted 259 videos, many of which were AI-generated and some sexually explicit. Together, the content had attracted more than 16 million views. By Friday, the channel’s page displayed the message: “This page isn’t available,” confirming the removal.
In a statement, YouTube said the deletion was carried out by the channel creator. The company added that it prohibits misleading or manipulated content that could harm viewers. Reuters tried to contact the channel owner, but the email address listed for the account bounced back.
India remains YouTube’s largest market with nearly 600 million users. Bollywood content is among the most popular on the platform. The most-watched video from the deleted channel had over 4 million views, featuring an AI-generated animation of Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai in a swimming pool.
The Bachchans are seeking $450,000 in damages from Google and other smaller websites selling unauthorized merchandise using their images. Despite the takedowns, some AI videos featuring the actors are still visible online. The case highlights growing concerns over misuse of artificial intelligence in digital entertainment.
