YouTube Premium has introduced five new features to enhance the experience for paid users. The update is now available across Android, iOS, web, smart TVs, and gaming consoles.
One of the major upgrades is playback speed. Subscribers can now watch videos at up to 4x speed. Free users remain limited to a maximum of 2x. This feature is already active on mobile devices and the web.
Audio quality for music-tagged videos has also improved. YouTube Premium members can now enjoy streaming at 256kbps. Previously, this higher quality was only available on YouTube Music. It is now rolling out to YouTube on Android and iOS.
Another feature gaining traction is Jump Ahead. This tool allows viewers to skip directly to the most-watched sections of a video. While once limited to desktop and mobile, it is now expanding to smart TVs and consoles.
Offline viewing has also been upgraded. With Smart Downloads for Shorts, the app automatically saves short video clips recommended for users. This ensures entertainment is available even without internet access. The feature, previously available on Android, is now being extended to iPhone users.
In addition, iOS subscribers now have Picture-in-Picture mode for Shorts. This allows videos to play in a small window while users multitask on their devices. Android users already had access to this option.
The rollout of these features highlights YouTube Premium’s effort to increase value for subscribers. With faster playback, better audio, smarter downloads, and flexible viewing tools, the platform is working to stay ahead of free alternatives.
As more updates continue, YouTube Premium is positioning itself as an essential upgrade for users who want a smoother, higher-quality experience.
