YouTube is expanding access to its Communities feature, aimed at strengthening creator-fan relationships and reducing the need for external platforms like Discord for audience engagement. This feature, which launched during last fall’s Made for YouTube event, is currently mobile-exclusive and allows creators to make text posts with images, similar to X (formerly Twitter), while enabling discussions within the platform.

By keeping these interactions inside YouTube, the company aims to create a more seamless experience for both creators and followers. According to YouTube’s blog, after testing the feature with a small group of creators and receiving positive feedback, they are now expanding its availability.
Creators will have access to a moderation system via YouTube Studio’s Community Hub, where they can manage channel activity and get AI-powered suggestions for fan interactions. Additionally, YouTube has rebranded its Community tab to “Posts” to better distinguish engagement features.
The feature is still invitation-based, with selected creators receiving notifications via email and a banner on their channel page in the YouTube app. Once invited, creators can activate the feature through a “Go to Community” prompt. While there’s no official word on a full rollout, the feature will likely be available to all once testing is complete.
