As Indian mangoes face rejection in the U.S., Pakistan is making headlines for cultivating the world’s rarest and most expensive mango—the Miyazaki—right in the heart of Karachi’s Malir Memon Goth, where it is being sold for an astonishing Rs 300,000 per kilogram.

Originally grown in Japan’s Miyazaki city, this exotic mango is renowned for its vibrant purple color, silky texture, and exceptional sweetness. Internationally, it sells for $800–$900 per kilogram, placing it among the most premium fruits in the world.
The fruit’s journey to Pakistan began six years ago, when Ghulam Hashim Noorani imported a sapling from Japan. Today, that single tree has matured and is yielding fruit that fetches up to Rs 250,000–Rs 300,000 locally.
“This is the first and only Miyazaki mango tree in Pakistan, and it’s right here in Malir,” said Faheem, the dedicated gardener behind its care. He added that the fruit is primarily grown for export, reflecting its elite market status.
The Miyazaki mango, often referred to as “Eggs of Sunshine” or “Dinosaur’s Egg”, is celebrated for its fiberless pulp, ultra-soft texture, and intensely sweet, juicy flavor. Its radiant purple hue, unique shape, and melt-in-the-mouth quality set it apart, earning it global acclaim as a symbol of luxury in the fruit world.
