Bilawal receives cheers for referring to Modi as the “Butcher of Gujarat” in his UN address.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s blistering response to India’s renewed terror mantra against Pakistan has gone viral. Bilawal called Modi “Butcher of Gujarat”, a nickname he had earned for overseeing a pogrom of Muslims in Gujarat in 2002 when he was the state chief minister.
In his statement to the UN Security Council, Bilawal remarked, “Osama Bin Laden is dead but the Butcher of Gujarat survives and he is the prime minister of India,” in response to S Jaishankar’s accusation that Pakistan was the “centre of terrorism” for “harbouring Osama bin Laden.” Before he became prime minister, he was not permitted to enter our nation. Since then, Bilawal has received both praise and criticism for his riposte, with many people complimenting him. Fakhr-e-Alam, an actor and broadcaster, tweeted, “Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the batter—a that’s six. Out of the park, middle of the bat!”
The verbal brawl took place on Friday outside of a UN Security Council emergency meeting in New York. India’s foreign ministry spokesperson described Bilawal’s speech as a “new low even for Pakistan,” hurt by Bilawal’s comments. The Pakistani foreign minister’s “shameful and offensive” statement would be the target of a statewide protest on Saturday, according to the BJP.
