World Bank Grants $48.9M To Educate 4 Million Children In Punjab

The World Bank has approved a $48.9 million grant to support a major education project in Punjab, Pakistan. The project aims to improve the quality of primary education and reach over four million children across the province.

According to officials, the initiative will benefit various student groups. These include around 300,000 children in government schools, 8.5 million learners in non-formal education, and 114,000 students in special education institutions.

The World Bank stated that the program will also focus on re-enrolling nearly 80,000 out-of-school children. These children will be brought into the formal education system to help bridge learning gaps and reduce dropout rates.

The project also focuses on improving the quality of education. One of its goals is to strengthen remedial teaching for elementary students. This will help students improve basic reading, writing, and math skills.

To support this, over 100,000 teachers and school leaders will be trained. These training programs aim to enhance teaching quality and improve academic leadership in schools.

The World Bank emphasized that the project is not just about expanding access to education. It also aims to ensure equity and long-term impact. The goal is to build human capital and reduce poverty through better education outcomes.

Officials believe that improved education will help children become skilled, productive citizens. This, in turn, will support Pakistan’s development goals.

The World Bank continues to play a key role in supporting Pakistan’s education sector. Its funding and technical support are helping improve learning for millions of students.

This latest grant highlights the importance of global partnerships in strengthening education systems. It also reflects a strong commitment to providing every child with the opportunity to learn and succeed.
