Widespread Use of UK SIMs in Pakistan Raises Concerns Over Child Pornography Links

FIA Highlights Growing Cybercrime Threat in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Additional Director General of the Cybercrime Wing of FIA, Waqar-ud-Din Syed, has described cybercrime in Pakistan as an extremely complex issue.

Speaking at a press conference, he stated that the department develops strategies to combat cybercrimes based on emerging trends. A key focus is the crackdown on the illegal trade of international SIM cards.

He revealed that UK-based SIM cards are the most commonly used in Pakistan for criminal activities, with pre-activated UK SIMs readily available online. These unauthorized SIMs are being used for child pornography and online financial fraud.

He also stressed that terrorists continue to find ways to communicate, with foreign SIMs being a major enabler. However, ensuring Pakistan’s security and enforcing the law remains the top priority.
