The White House has confirmed that the United States is weighing a range of options to pursue control of Greenland, including possible use of military force. This statement has drawn global attention and sparked reactions from allies and critics alike.

The comments came after President Donald Trump renewed his push for the Arctic island. According to a White House spokesperson, Greenland is considered a national security priority due to its strategic position in the Arctic and growing activities by other global powers.

In the statement, the White House said the president and his team are discussing various ways to achieve this foreign policy goal. It added that military options remain available to the commander in chief, though no specific plan has been announced.

Greenland is an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark. It is not part of the United States, and Danish and Greenlandic leaders have firmly rejected any idea of transfer of sovereignty. Denmark’s prime minister stressed that Greenland is not for sale and urged the United States to respect the island’s control by its people.

European leaders also reacted strongly. Officials from France, Germany, Britain, Italy, and other nations issued a joint message saying that Greenland belongs to its people and must remain under Danish sovereignty. They highlighted that Arctic security should be managed collectively through existing alliances like NATO.

Some senior U.S. officials have downplayed the idea of military conflict, saying the focus remains on diplomatic and economic avenues. They noted that efforts could include negotiations to purchase the territory or enhance cooperation on Arctic security issues, rather than direct force.

Still, the White House’s comments have stirred concern among NATO members. Critics argue that even raising the possibility of a military option against a NATO ally could weaken trust within the alliance. Denmark’s leaders warned that threats to attack a fellow member could undermine the foundation of post-World War II security cooperation.

Greenland’s prime minister also called for respectful dialogue and reaffirmed that the future of the island should be decided only by Greenlanders and Denmark. He emphasized that any discussion must abide by international law and not undermine sovereign rights.

The renewed push by the United States follows other bold foreign policy actions by the Trump administration. European analysts say the Arctic’s strategic importance has grown due to climate change and resource competition, making Greenland a focal point for global power interests.

Overall, the White House statement on Greenland has prompted strong responses from allies and raised questions about how far the United States will go to secure its perceived interests in the Arctic.
