WhatsApp To Stop Supporting These Smartphones For Services

WhatsApp has made a somber announcement affecting tech enthusiasts. In a blog post from the Facebook-owned service, it was revealed that WhatsApp will no longer be compatible with certain iPhones and Android devices.

Specifically, the messenger service will no longer support Android versions 5.0 (Lollipop) or earlier operating systems. Users currently on these older versions are advised to update their operating systems or consider upgrading their mobile devices.

If you’re one of the few individuals using WhatsApp on Android 4.1 or 4.4, you may have already received notifications. Starting from tomorrow, the app will no longer function, and users will only see a notice with additional information. Some have attempted to adjust their phone’s date settings, but this is only a temporary solution and restricts chat usage until the phone is put in airplane mode.

Users have a 24-hour window to transfer their WhatsApp data to an Android device running Android 5.0 or later. The best approach is to transfer conversations directly, without relying on Google Drive, as Google has also ceased supporting Google Play services on Android version ‘KitKat’.
