WhatsApp has officially unveiled its Advanced Chat Privacy feature, designed to give users greater control over how their messages and media are handled in both private and group chats. After being leaked earlier this month, the feature has now been rolled out to users worldwide.
With Advanced Chat Privacy activated, users can prevent others from exporting chats, stop the automatic downloading of media, and limit the use of messages in AI-driven tools. However, the feature does not yet block screenshots — a limitation that WhatsApp has acknowledged and plans to address in future updates.

The company noted that the feature is especially useful in group settings where participants may not know each other personally, such as community organizations and health support groups. It offers stronger protection for messages after they have been sent.
To enable the feature, users need to open a chat, tap the chat name at the top, and access the Advanced Chat Privacy option in the settings. It must be turned on individually for each conversation. WhatsApp has confirmed that further improvements and additional privacy options are on the way.
