WhatsApp Enhances Calling Features and Privacy-Oriented On-Device Translation
WhatsApp is rolling out new features aimed at improving user experience across both mobile and desktop platforms.
Mobile Calling Enhancements
Mobile users now have more control during group calls. They can select specific participants, preventing unnecessary notifications for others in the group. Additionally, WhatsApp introduces ten video call effects, adding a layer of interactivity and fun to video calls.
Desktop Calling Improvements
Desktop users can now initiate calls more seamlessly through three new methods: starting a call directly, creating a call link, or dialing a number from the calls tab. WhatsApp has also improved the quality of communication with high-resolution video calls for both one-on-one and group chats.

Privacy-Oriented On-Device Translation
WhatsApp is also working on a new translation feature aimed at enhancing privacy. This feature will allow users to translate channel updates into multiple languages. Similar to the existing chat message translation feature, the upcoming translation option will function on-device, ensuring that no data is sent to the internet, and eliminating concerns about privacy.
Users will be able to toggle this feature for channel updates and chat messages. However, they will need to download language packs, which may result in less accurate translations. The initial supported languages include English, Hindi, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, and Portuguese, with more languages expected in the future.
While there is no official release date for the translation feature, WhatsApp continues to roll out updates to improve calling capabilities, aiming to make communication simpler and more accessible for users worldwide.
