What Might Pakistan’s Petrol Price Be On October 1st?

In Karachi, there is a likelihood of a decrease in petroleum product prices in the first half of October. The government aims to provide some relief to the struggling public dealing with record inflation.

According to media reports, petrol prices are expected to decline by approximately Rs12-15 per liter, attributed to the resurgence of the Pakistani rupee following a significant crackdown. The interim government is also considering a reduction in kerosene prices by Rs8-10 per liter, with the final decision pending approval by the Prime Minister.

This anticipated price drop would mark the first decrease in two months, primarily due to the strengthening of the rupee. The last reduction in petrol and diesel prices occurred in July, with petrol decreasing by Rs9 per liter to Rs253 and diesel by Rs7 per liter to Rs253.50.

Earlier this month, the caretaker government had raised petrol and diesel prices again, reaching historic highs. This increase came on top of the previous hikes, resulting in a cumulative rise of Rs58.43 per liter within a month, with Rs32.41 and Rs38.49 per liter increases in petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices since August 15.
