West Indies defeated Papua New Guinea by five wickets in the second match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at Guyana’s Providence Stadium on Sunday.
Rovman Powell’s side chased the target in 19 overs, thanks to a crucial sixth-wicket partnership between Roston Chase and Andre Russell.

Despite a shaky start, with five wickets down for 97 runs and 40 runs needed off the last four overs, Chase’s composed 42* off 27 balls and Russell’s 15* off nine balls secured the victory.
Brandon King contributed 34 runs off 29 balls, while Nicholas Pooran added 27 off 27 balls. PNG’s skipper Assad Vala took two wickets for 28 runs.
Earlier, West Indies kept PNG under control by taking regular wickets, limiting them to 136-8 after opting to bowl first. The only significant partnership for PNG was a 44-run stand between Sese Bau (50 off 43 balls) and Charles Amini. Kiplin Doriga added an unbeaten 27* to boost the total.
Andre Russell was the standout bowler with figures of 2/19, while Alzarri Joseph took 2/34. Akeal Hosein, Romario Shepherd, and Gudakesh Motie each claimed a wicket.
