SPI-Based Inflation Increases by 0.07% for Week Ending December 12, 2024: PBS Report
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), SPI-based inflation for the week ending December 12, 2024, rose by 0.07%. This increase was primarily driven by higher prices for several essential items, including chicken (up by 3.80%), vegetable ghee (2.5 kg) (up by 2.27%), bananas (up by 1.99%), potatoes (up by 1.93%), mustard oil (up by 1.07%), and LPG (up by 0.28%).

During this period, out of the 51 items monitored, 18 items (35.29%) saw price increases, 11 items (21.57%) experienced price decreases, and 22 items (43.14%) remained stable in price.
On a year-on-year basis, inflation increased by 3.71%. This was mainly due to significant price hikes in items such as pulse gram (up 59.55%), pulse moong (up 36.44%), potatoes (up 36.16%), powdered milk (up 25.74%), beef (up 23.82%), tomatoes (up 20.51%), and garlic (up 15.97%), along with increased gas charges and cooked daal.
However, there was a notable decrease in the prices of several commodities, including wheat flour (down 35.88%), chili powder (down 20.00%), diesel (down 10.77%), petrol (down 10.33%), and pulse masoor (down 10.26%). Additionally, prices for onions, rice basmati broken, electricity charges, and sugar also decreased during the week.
