Weather Forecast Predicts Thunderstorms Across Pakistan Starting May 27

Fresh Rainfall to Bring Relief from Heatwave Across Pakistan Starting Tuesday

A strong weather system is set to bring intermittent rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms to northern, central, and parts of southern Pakistan from May 27 to 31, offering much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave, the Meteorological Department has announced.

Deputy Director Irfan Virk said the upper regions, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, will experience rainfall starting Tuesday night. The rain will help ease the scorching temperatures that have affected several parts of the country.

Expected Rainfall Areas and Timeline:

  • Punjab & Islamabad Region: Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Sargodha, Mianwali, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and multiple districts including Chakwal, Faisalabad, Kasur, and Narowal will see rain and storms through May 27–31.
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP): Thunderstorms and showers are forecast until Saturday in areas like Chitral, Swat, Abbottabad, Haripur, Bajaur, Peshawar, and others.
  • South Punjab & Balochistan: Rainfall expected in Zhob, Ziarat, Barkhan, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and surrounding districts from May 27–30.

Warnings and Precautions:

The PDMA offices of Punjab and KP have issued alerts urging district administrations to prepare for potential emergencies such as road blockages and power outages. Heavy and light machinery must be on standby, especially in vulnerable rural areas.

PDMA Punjab DG Irfan Ali Kathia emphasized the need for readiness across departments including health, education, irrigation, and local government.

Travelers to hilly areas like Murree and Galiyat are advised to remain cautious of landslides and flash floods. The public is urged to stay indoors during storms, avoid parking under trees or power lines, and keep emergency supplies ready.
