The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert forecasting rain and thunderstorms across northern areas of the country from March 6 to March 11. Officials said intermittent rain with thunder is expected in regions such as Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, and Abbottabad during this period. People in these areas have been advised to monitor weather updates, as rainfall may occur in short but sometimes heavy spells.
Cloudy conditions with chances of rain and thunderstorms are also predicted for Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir within the same dates. Islamabad, the Potohar Plateau, and hill stations including Murree and the Galiyat region may experience similar weather patterns, with possible lightning and rainfall affecting daily activities.
At the same time, the Met Office warned of rising temperatures in plain areas. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, temperatures are expected to increase by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius above normal levels. Sindh and Balochistan may also see temperatures rise by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above seasonal averages, resulting in warmer conditions across these provinces.
Authorities have urged residents, particularly in mountainous and vulnerable areas, to remain cautious during heavy rain and thunderstorms, as sudden weather changes could lead to travel delays, temporary flooding, and other local disruptions.
