Former Pakistan cricket star Wasim Akram is facing controversy after a citizen lodged a complaint with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), accusing him of promoting an illegal online gambling platform.
The complaint, filed by Muhammad Fayyaz, alleges that Akram entered into an agreement with “Baji,” an India-based betting company. He claimed that promotional content, including a poster and a short video clip circulating on social media, shows the ex-cricketer encouraging people to register on the platform.
The petitioner argued that such promotions are a clear violation of Pakistani law, which strictly bans all forms of gambling. He has requested legal action under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, insisting that the promotion of betting services damages both legal and moral values in the country.
So far, Akram has not released any official statement in response to the allegations.
This case comes shortly after another similar incident in which YouTuber Saadur Rehman, popularly known as “Ducky Bhai,” was arrested by NCCIA for allegedly endorsing online betting applications
