This expansion, slated for completion by 2025-26, forms a vital part of WAPDA’s eco-friendly, low-cost energy program and will increase Tarbela’s capacity by 1,530 MW. Once completed, the Tarbela hydropower complex will have a total capacity of 6,418 MW, strengthening Pakistan’s sustainable energy resources.
The project is funded by key international lenders, with $390 million from the World Bank and $300 million from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. Ensuring additional resources remains crucial for its timely completion.
