The Pakistan Consulate in Los Angeles has issued a warning about a fraudulent message circulating online. The message falsely claims to be an “important notice” regarding Pakistan Visa applications. Authorities confirmed that this is a phishing scam designed to steal personal and financial information.
The consulate clarified on its official website that it is not associated with the scam. The Pakistan Embassy in Washington also confirmed that the consulate disassociates itself from unauthorized individuals or entities involved in the fraudulent activity.
The scam asks applicants to submit sensitive details through unauthorized links. Officials warned that criminals may target passport numbers, social security information, bank account data, and credit card details. Such information could be misused for identity theft, financial fraud, and other criminal purposes.
The Pakistan Consulate stressed that all Visa applications must be submitted only through official channels. Applicants are advised to avoid intermediaries or unauthorized agents who promise faster processing or special privileges.
Citizens were also cautioned against sharing personal or financial information on suspicious platforms. Requests for sensitive data should be treated as major red flags. The consulate urged the public to verify any Visa information through official sources and report suspicious communications to authorities.
The advisory comes amid a global rise in online fraud. According to the US Federal Trade Commission, American consumers lost over $12.5 billion to scams in 2024, with phishing and identity theft being major contributors. Fraudsters continue to exploit unsuspecting individuals, causing severe financial and personal losses.
