Veteran Bollywood actor Asrani dies at 84 after a long illness

India’s legendary actor Asrani has passed away at the age of 84 after a prolonged illness. According to Indian media, the veteran Hindi cinema star, Shri Govardhan Asrani, breathed his last in Mumbai, with his nephew confirming the news.

With a film career spanning more than five decades, Asrani appeared in over 350 movies, earning immense love and respect for his iconic comic and supporting roles. His peak years during the 1970s made him one of the most beloved and reliable character actors in Bollywood.

He starred in numerous classics such as Mere Apne, Koshish, Bawarchi, Parichay, Abhimaan, Chupke Chupke, Chhoti Si Baat, Rafu Chakkar, and Sholay, where his portrayal of the quirky jail warden remains unforgettable.

In later years, he continued to charm audiences with roles in Dhamaal, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and Bunty Aur Babli 2. Renowned for his impeccable timing and distinct dialogue delivery, Asrani carved a unique legacy in Indian cinema.

Following his death, tributes from across the film industry have poured in, mourning the loss of a true legend of Hindi cinema.
