Vehicles to Be Seized After 10 Unpaid E-Challans

Authorities have tightened regulations to curb traffic violations by lowering the number of unpaid e-challans required for vehicle blacklisting or confiscation. The move, part of the Safe City initiative, aims to enhance enforcement and boost fine recovery rates across Lahore.

Under the new policy, vehicles and motorcycles with 25 pending e-challans will face blacklisting in the second phase, while those with 10 unpaid e-challans will be seized during the third phase and kept at the nearest police station until all fines are cleared.

Previously, drivers were only blacklisted after accumulating 50 unpaid challans — a threshold officials said enabled chronic violators to avoid penalties. The latest amendment closes that gap, ensuring stricter monitoring and faster action against repeat offenders.

Lahore’s Chief Traffic Officer, Athar Waheed, emphasized that the policy shift reflects the government’s commitment to improving road discipline and accountability. He added that traffic police are working closely with Safe City authorities to identify defaulters and enforce prompt fine collection.

Officials also warned that vehicles impounded due to unpaid e-challans will remain in police custody until dues are settled, with enforcement efforts expected to ramp up in the coming weeks.
